Amy says the lines “I don’t never want to drink again, I just oh I just need a friend, I’m not going to spend ten weeks, have everyone think I’m on the mend”. The line “I know we don’t come in a shot glass” is talking about how she knows that he can’t get smart from drinking but she doesn’t it anyway, which is her acknowledging that she has a problem that could be fixed but she chooses to ignore it and drink anyway. The lines ‘I’m gonna lose my baby so I always keep a bottle near’ is referring to how she split up with her boyfriend at the time and she was really upset about it so she was always drinking. Adding onto this she also uses the lines ‘I’d rather be back home with Ray’ and ‘there’s nothing you can’t teach me that I can’t learn from Mr Hathaway’ referring to two of her Jazz heroes Ray Charles and Donny Hathaway. The song also gives the line ‘I ain’t got seventy days’ which suggests that she doesn’t want to give up any of her time to be locked up and she feels she will do better alone at home. This line was ‘and if my daddy says I’m fine’.
There is a line in the song that suggests one of the reasons she didn’t go was because her dad said that she was fine. Amy Winehouse’s song Rehab is about how she was asked to go to a rehab facilitation for her drug and alcohol problems but refused to go.
